A businessman was vacationing in a small coastal village when he saw a fisherman returning with his catch. The businessman asked how long it took to catch the fish, and the fisherman replied, “Just a short while.” The businessman then asked why he didn’t stay out longer to catch more fish. The fisherman explained that he had enough to support his family’s needs. Curious, the businessman asked what the fisherman did with the rest of his time. The fisherman replied, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my friends.” The businessman offered advice: “I have an MBA and can help you. If you spend more time fishing, you can buy a bigger boat, catch more fish, and eventually own a fleet of boats. You could then move to a big city, open a fish processing plant, and become wealthy.” The fisherman asked, “And then what?” The businessman replied, “Then you could retire, move to a small coastal village, sleep late, fish a little, play with your children, take a siesta with your wife, and stroll into the village each evening to sip wine and play guitar with your friends.” The fisherman smiled and said, “Isn’t that what I’m doing already?”
